CHALLENGES:

Denivelo sought to establish a presence in the boat cleaning product market with packaging that reflected their luxury yacht experience while meeting significant challenges:

  • No brand legacy: The products had to significantly stand apart from competitors in order to draw enough attention for them to reconsider their purchase habits.
  • Limited budget: Cost constraints required using standard white packaging provided by the manufacturer. The design needed to work within these parameters while maximizing visual impact.
  • Diverse target audience: Yacht owners and maintenance staff, with varying levels of English proficiency, required packaging that was intuitive, visually appealing, and accessible.
SOLUTIONS:

To address these challenges, we developed a design approach that seamlessly combined practical usability with Denivelo's brand identity, ensuring the product line reflected both luxury and functionality. Each product was grouped by surface type using a carefully chosen Denivelo brand color palette. Blue was designated for glass surfaces, beige for wood surfaces, white for plastic surfaces, and gray for metal surfaces. This color-coded segmentation simplified product selection for users while creating a cohesive and recognizable visual identity across the entire product line.

The labeling was designed to be clear and intuitive, with large, easily readable product names to ensure instant recognition. Each product was assigned a unique code for inventory management, which reduced reliance on language skills. Additionally, pictograms illustrating product usage were included to assist maintenance staff who might not be fluent in English.

The visual design was elevated with sophisticated elements that connected Denivelo to the luxury boating experience. Sail-inspired shapes were integrated into the design to evoke elegance, while the typography and layout adhered to a clean and modern aesthetic, reinforcing a sense of refinement and premium quality.

THE PROCES:

Collaboration with our client was pivotal in shaping the final product. The process unfolded in carefully planned steps to ensure both functional and aesthetic goals were achieved.

  • Initial Briefing:
    We started with a detailed Zoom meeting to define the scope and gather insights from the client. This included understanding the needs of the target audience, thanks to Denivelo’s owner's firsthand experience in the yachting industry.
  • Research Phase:
    We conducted market research and competitor analysis, combining those insights with the target audience data provided by our client. This helped us identify the challenges our design needed to overcome and target audience needs that competitors were not meeting.
  • Developing the Functional Model:
    To address the identified needs, we created a functional blueprint for the design. Feedback sessions ensured that the design framework addressed practical considerations like usability and language barriers.
  • Aesthetic Design:
    Once the functional elements were approved, we focused on addressing our client’s challenge of entering a new market by adding aesthetic value to the functional appeal. This included aligning with Denivelo’s visual identity and creating a cohesive look across the product range.
  • Client Collaboration:
    Throughout the design process, minor revisions were made to align the packaging with our client’s vision. Regular feedback sessions ensured the final product exceeded expectations.
  • Delivery and Offboarding:
    The final design files were prepared for print, and we worked closely with the printing firm to ensure a seamless production process.
